Bruce Willis celebrates his 71st birthday with a kiss from his young granddaughter as Emma Heming Willis gives a sad but hopeful health update
BRAVE Bruce Willis gets a kiss from his two-year-old granddaughter in touching photos shared for his 71st birthday.
The Die Hard star, who has dementia, tenderly hugged Louetta, whose mum is his eldest daughter Rumer, 37.
Ex-wife Demi Moore posted the image and wrote: “All you need is LOVE. Happy birthday, BW!”
Bruce’s wife Emma has said he is “still very much present in his body”.
Bruce “never connected” the dots to work out that he has dementia, his wife has said.
Emma gave the heartbreaking health update in an intimate chat with Cameron Rogers on her “Conversations with Cam” podcast.
The actor’s wife said that Willis thinks his behavior is completely normal, after being asked if he was aware of his frontotemporal dementia (FTP) diagnosis.
Heming said her husband isn’t in denial, instead insisting that it’s his brain’s way of helping him adapt to the condition.
She explained: “I think that’s the blessing and the curse of this, Bruce never tapped in — he never connected the dots that he has this disease.”
Heming confessed that she’s glad he’s not aware, adding: “I’m really happy about that, that he doesn’t know about it.”
Bruce’s health issues were first revealed when he retired from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, which is the inability to comprehend or formulate language due to damage to areas of the brain.
The following year, it was announced that Willis had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the most common form of dementia in people under 60 and symptoms include personality changes, obsessive behavior, and speaking difficulties.
Willis’ wife clarified in the podcast that the Sixth Sense actor still knows who everyone around him is, because he has dementia rather than Alzheimer’s disease.
