Angelina Jolie shuns her usual glamour as she transforms into frumpy opera singer Maria Callas while filming biopic in Paris

Angelina Jolie looked almost unrecognisable as she was spotted on the set of her new movie in Paris on Thursday.

The actress, 48, who is starring as iconic opera singer Maria Callas in the biopic, shunned her usual glamorous look for a vintage tweed ensemble.

Angelina sported a pair of thick wide brimmed spectacles as well as a greying wig which was tied into a bun.

In outdoor scenes as her character walked her dogs she wore a dark suit and cropped brown overcoat.

The Oscar winner slipped her feet into knee-high boots and wore a silk scarf, with leather gloves and a vintage handbag.

Earlier in the day Angelina looked ultra chic in a black midi dress as she departed her hotel and headed to set.

Stepping out in the French capital, she shielded her eyes with a pair of sunglasses and added some practical ballet flats.

Angelina toted a large Celine handbag and slung a beige trench coat over the top, styling her hair straight.

Angelina looked worlds away from her usual Hollywood self as the first look images of the biopic Maria were released earlier this week.

The actress transformed herself into the role of iconic opera singer Maria Callas for the film, which will follow her turbulent life and legacy.

In one sneak preview of Angelina as Maria, the actress goes make-up free and wears thick brown rimmed eyeglasses and a chunky knit as filming gets under way.

In another photo, the Mr and Mrs Smith star looks much more glamorous with winged eyeliner and a plush fur trimmed coat.

Angelina is lucky enough to wear some of Callas’ real clothes in the film, including vintage fur items from Massimo Cantini Parrini’s archive collection.

Maria, who was one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century, passed away in 1977.

The artist was known for her incredible range on stage as well as her turbulent love life that included a romance with Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, who went on to wed Jackie Kennedy.

‘I take very seriously the responsibility to Maria’s life and legacy,’ Angelina said previously in a statement. ‘I will give all I can to meet the challenge.’

The Tomb Raider star also mentioned the film’s director, Pablo Larraín, whom she said she ‘long admired.’
